Gift Acceptance Policy
The Association for Creatine Deficiencies (ACD) relies on and is grateful for financial contributions, in-kind donations, and volunteer support from individuals, partnerships, corporations, foundations, and government agencies that align with our values and support our mission and vision. Gifts to the ACD help to promote and fund medical research for treatments and cures, provide patient, family, and public education, and advocate for early intervention through newborn screening for Cerebral Creatine Deficiency Syndromes (CCDS). Individuals, corporations, foundations, and agencies that would like to support the ACD should value:- ACD’s core mission and vision
- ACD’s commitment to avoiding real or perceived conflicts of interest
- Transparency
- Gifts must be consistent with ACD’s mission and do not compromise ACD’s core values.
- Gifts should not damage the reputation of ACD or discourage future giving by the donor or other donors.
- The primary benefit of the gift is for ACD and supports ACD’s priorities.
- Gifts must comply with the Internal Revenue Code as well as all applicable state and local laws.
- Gifts should be usable by ACD without incurring substantial expense or difficulty.
- Gifts may not violate ACD’s conflict of interest policy.
- Gifts which are in-kind goods or services and gifts of volunteer time are equally valued by ACD. The burden of determining tax implications of such gifts is upon the donor.
- ACD accepts financial contributions that are directly tied to the sale(s) of products, such as a percentage of the total sales of a product or a fixed amount from the sale of a product. The burden of determining tax implications of such a contribution is upon the donor.
- ACD accepts financial contributions which are provided as matching corporate gifts (either matching financial gifts or matching volunteer efforts and time).
- Records of gifts donated by supporters to ACD will never be shared, sold, given, or recycled. Supporters can choose whether to be recognized publicly or to remain anonymous. By default, donations made on the ACD website will be public unless the donor requests “anonymous” during the donation process.
- Use of the ACD’s word mark or logo must be approved in advance by ACD’s Leadership and Board of Directors
- ACD will not accept donations of medical products for any purpose, including pharmaceuticals, medical foods, or any other medical product. This shall not preclude ACD from sharing information about products which may be valuable to the community. Any sharing of information about products will include a disclaimer as to whether ACD was paid to share the information.
- ACD’s acceptance of a corporate gift does not create or imply any endorsement of any company or any of its products or services. Contributors to the ACD may not use ACD’s intellectual property without the express written permission of ACD, and may not state, suggest, or imply any endorsement from ACD.
- ACD will not accept contributions that are restricted to support of a specific hospital group, hospital, medical organization, medical practice, physician, or other health care provider. This shall not preclude ACD from raising restricted funds to fund research or other program activities conducted by hospital groups, hospitals, medical organizations, medical practices, physicians, or other health care providers.
- ACD will not accept contributions intended to benefit any one particular member of the Board of Directors or Scientific Advisory Council, or which otherwise violates our Conflict of Interest Policy, which is available here.
